Our habits attribute to our character more than those of our parents

We follow in our parents’ footsteps simply because we’re too afraid of change. If I ate healthy for 10 years, after being fed unhealthily from my parents for 9 years, I have 1 more year of healthy habits.

But is this correct? Would there be a 1:1 year trade off? After all, children are more impressionable than adults. What do you think?
